Received as a gift - LOVE it! July 29, 2010 D. Light (St Louis, MO United States) I received this as a Christmas gift and wasn't sure I would like drinking from a "metal" bottle, so I delayed using the bottle for six month. When I left my usual Nalgene bottle at the gym, I called to have them hold it until I could return the following week to get it. Meantime, I decided to break out the 20 oz. insulated Kleen Kanteen bottle. Oh, my gosh! Trust me when I say I relegated the Nalgene bottle to a drawer and it hasn't seen the light of day these past six weeks. I love the clean, fresh taste of water from the Kleen Kanteen and it stays cold for hours. I put ice water in it the first day about 8 a.m. and when I picked it up for the last drink from it at 3 p.m., the water was still cold and there were still pieces of ice chinking around in the bottle. Wow! The bottle doesn't sweat, and it fits reasonably well in most cup holders, even on the golf cart. For the times when I use my pull cart to play golf, I tuck the Kleen Kanteen in a side pocket in my golf bag. On a day with the heat index of 115 degrees, I had cold water to drink the entire afternoon. (And yes, I did refill the bottle with cold water on top of the remaining ice a few times during the round so I could stay hydrated.)
A funny bit that isn't a negative, but has made me change my habits. Normally, I fill my water bottle with tap water and put it in the refrigerator overnight so it is cold when I leave in the mornings. That doesn't work so well with this bottle because it is so well insulated that the coldness of the refrigerator doesn't permeate to make the water cold. Solution? Ice in the water before I put it in the refrigerator for overnight.
If I could change one thing about the insulated Kleen Kanteen bottle, it would be the cap. I have both the cafe cap and the loop cap (thanks to a generous brother and his wife.) I don't want to mess with taking the cap on and off to get a drink (doesn't seem too nice to do in business meetings and I am always afraid I will end up spilling the drink) and yet, the cafe cap isn't designed to be totally spill-proof. I am in the process of trying to find out if the sports cap will fit my 20 oz. bottle and if it does, I am going to give that a try. Meantime, I plan to buy a few bottles to give as gifts.
P.S. I do not drink hot liquids much, so haven't tested how the bottle works with hot stuff like coffee or hot tea. I am pretty sure it would be equally good.
best water bottle out there July 25, 2010 Lisa Adams (CA) I love this Klean Kanteen insulated bottle, and it's my only water bottle I use now.
I use it with the cafe cap as I hate to take the caps off and on all day. I have no problem with leaking!
I bought the 20 oz size and although I like carrying more water with me, it doesn't fit in my center console cup holders. Maybe that's just my car.
There is no added taste to the water with this bottle. The water tastes exactly like the water I put in it.
The insulated one is the way to go...for me anyway! With temps in the 90s and 100s, I like my water to stay cold. I've put ice cubes in the bottle and come back 24 hrs later and they are still not melted in this bottle after sitting for so long.
After buying numerous brands of bottles and being disappointed, I've finally found the perfect water bottle. I'm very happily hydrated!
Great for work, Keeps things cold 12+ hours July 22, 2010 Let's Go Bruins (BRIGHTON, MA, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We love these Kanteens. Tons better than the non-insulated ones if you like your beverage cold allday. Keeps ice from melting for 8+ hours even in 75-85 degree temps. This bottle does not sweat no matter what which is great. I love both caps the loop and cafe. The cafe lid is a must if you drink from the bottle. The loop never fails me and never leaks a drop. For the price you can't beat it. The 20oz is the perfect size we got a 16 and a 20 and there is not much differance.
Perfect for taking your favorite drinks with you. July 13, 2010 B. Jones 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
As a student, I feel that I am always on the go and always craving coffee. This bottle is almost magical in its ability to preserve the temperature of your drink (hot or cold), and maintain the taste (no plasticy aftertaste). This is obviously because of the vacuum insulation, and stainless steel construction, respectively, along with supurb build quality.
I will now speak specifically about cold and hot liquids in the bottle, as well as a lid (something that is very important to a bottle.
Cold: This is what it seems to handle the best. Ice stays frozen for hours (seems like up to 10 or 12 hours sometimes), and ice water will stay pleasantly cold for nearly 20 hours. I put water with ice in the bottle around 3:00 one afternoon, and it was still quite cold the following morning around 10:00. Another advantage of keeping very cold water in this bottle versus a non-insulated klean kanteen is the fact that it does not sweat.
Hot: Coffee from my keurig coffee machine stays at a delectible temperature for up to 5 hours after brewing with this bottle. With a traditional coffee pot, or a french press (where the temperature is usually higher than a keurig's serving temperature) would last longer. I have not tested this personally.
Lid: This is the weakest part of the bottle by far. There are two things about the lid which bothers me quite a bit. Firstly, the lid is not supposed to be fully submerged in water when washing. Water "under pressure" can leak into the lid and have no hopes of getting out. Secondly, and partially due to the difficulty of cleaning caused by the first point, the lid seems to smell strongly of whatever you have been drinking. This is most evident with coffee. Otherwise, the lid keeps a tight seal when on the bottle, and leaves you feeling comfortable tossing the bottle in your bag with a computer and notebooks, etc.
Summary:
This bottle is great, and does as it advertises quite brilliantly. It handles hot and cold liquids well, and makes taking your drinks wherever you go easy and pain-free. Unfortunately, the lid made a nearly-perfect bottle not entirely perfect in the end.
