Excellent bike..good value June 27, 2010 Stewart L. Smith (Chicago, IL USA) I assembled this bike in about 15 minutes; everything was pre-tuned and lubricated - up and riding in 20 minutes!
An excellent commuter/fitness bike.
Inexpensive and cheap May 31, 2010 greenbreen 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this bike now for probably close to half a year, but I've hardly ridden it because I've had so many problems with it. Within the first month of owning it, the bottom bracket became extremely sloppy. When I took it apart, I found that it was a cheap, open design. I replaced it with a sealed unit. I also had problems with the handlebars coming loose, even though I tightened the bolt very securely. I tried to buy thorn-resistant tubes, but I found that the rims are made such that they require the inner tube to have a very long stem. I have not been able to find a thorn-resistant tube that will work with the stock wheels. I put puncture-resistant lining in the treads and slime in the tubes, but I still got flats in both tires within a few months. I bought another bike that I uses as my primary, and I use the Urbano as a spare. If you don't mind doing a lot of maintenance, it's probably a good value. I wouldn't have bought it, though, if I knew how much trouble it would be.
It's a Lamborghini! May 17, 2010 A. Stoute (Apple Valley, MN) I'll admit it: the name swayed me into the purchase. I figured it was the closest I am going to come to to owning a Lamborghini.
Assembly was pretty easy, the bike comes mostly assembled you just need to put the front wheel on, the seat and the handlebars. So that's the easy part. Let me qualify the rest of this by saying I am not a mechanically inclined person, so you might have an easier time. Adjusting the front and rear brakes so they don't drag on the wheel and then release correctly and spring open after being applies took me some time. The directions were not much help in this area, but I managed to fumble through it. Getting the adjustments on the gears just right was also tricky, although the instructions were considerably more detailed in this area.
As one other reviewer mentioned the instructions are also slightly out of date referencing parts of that are not on this model.
The bike rides very well, shifts smoothly and despite my initial problems it's great. My only complaint is the seat is very hard and uncomfortable. I'll be switching it out soon for a more comfortable one, but all in all I am happy with this bike.
I always wanted a Lamborghini? May 8, 2010 M. Berry 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Wanting to replace my worn-out Trek-7100, and finding that the price had risen significantly since my last purchase, I turned to the Urbano as a substitute. On receipt of the bike, having read the previous comments before ordering, I looked for, and found, rubber liners inside the rims. So I was very surprised to get a flat in the first hour of riding. On inspection, I found several small holes drilled through the rim, apparently as part of the manufacturing process, with sharp edges that wore through the tube. After filing down the burrs I found that my replacement tube's valve stem (a standard schrader type) was too large for the hole in the rim. The tubes supplied with the Urbano had elongated, narrow stems I was not familiar with and were not available locally. Fortunately a replacement tube with a presta-type stem suffices. Also, a closer look at the rims revealed poorly matched joints.
Assembly was easy except for one pedal refusing to seat into the crank completely, probably because of damaged or poorly machined threads. It is now bending and may need replacement. The handlebar's front-to-back-adjustment joint is held by a single screw, which produces an insecure, wobbly sensation when riding, unlike the Trek which has a clamp in addition to the screw.
Bottom line? It's not a Trek and it may give you headaches...but it's cheap.
Good Bike (for the price) But you'll need to get it tuned. April 15, 2010 M. Peterson (Phoenix) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought two of these bikes for a non-profit organization that had only $400 allocated for two adult bikes. A pretty tough bill to fill, but when I saw this bike for $200 I thought it might be the answer.
The bikes were fairly easy to assemble once I figured out that the instructions were outdated. For example, it says to use a wrench to tighten bolts when putting on the front wheel -- but there are no bolts for the front wheel. You have to figure out for yourself that there is a quick release mechanism hidden in a separate box with reflectors and other items.
While assembling I noticed that the front wheel on both bikes needed to be trued (straightened). Pretty sad for a brand new bikes. Because of this it was nearly impossible to properly adjust the breaks. The derailleurs (front and back on both bikes) also needed adjustment but the front derailleur on one bike was so out of whack it wouldn't shift at all. Of course there were no instructions on how to adjust the front derailleur in the owners manual so I had to look it up online. I finally got it to the point it would shift but it still rubbed on the guard when using the middle sprocket. It looked as if the sprocket was not mounted squarely because it moved in and out as the crankshaft turned (both bikes were like this). You need a special tool to remove the crankshaft.
Another downer is that paint flaked off where the seat goes in as the metal expanded slightly to accept the seat post. This happened on both bikes. I hope the rest of the bike doesn't start losing paint too.
After several hours trying to get gears and breaks properly adjusted I finally decided to take them to a local bike shop to get them tuned up for $60 each. The good news is the shop was able to get them in proper working order and the technician said they seem to be good bikes, especially when I told him what I paid. The morale of the story is, when buying a bike online, be sure to consider the cost of getting them tuned up (unless you're an experienced bicycle technician with the proper tools).
When researching the bikes, I wasn't sure about the frame size and was afraid the 22" frame might be too small for someone my size. I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam but the 22" frame is plenty tall -- glad I didn't get the 25". The seat is not very comfortable -- it's just a standard run-of-the-mill seat.
Here are some details you might want to know about:
Indexed shifters
No quick release on rear wheel
Weighs about 31 lbs
All in all it turned out to be a good purchase but I would look around before paying full price for this bike.
