| Customer Reviews: Do not buy an Izip product! August 24, 2010 Cort Felts (BOZEMAN, MT, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife purchased an Izip Urban Cruiser through Amazon approximately two and a half years ago. The bike was supposed to be a cost saving surprise for me. But where I live I can rarely ride it! In addition, I have spent at least another $200 dollars (unnecessarily) and hours upon hours of time dealing with this very sensitive bicycle. By "sensitive" I am referring to the batteries and--as far as I can tell--ALL of the electrical parts and connections.
Prior to purchase, my wife thoroughly looked over Izip's website. Nowhere did she see that the batteries for this piece of junk cannot be exposed to temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit--EVER! Moreover, the electrical connections seem to be overly sensitive to cold temperatures (which is something I've never encountered in my extensive small engine experience). This isn't a problem for wealthy people like Ed Begley and Darryl Hannah, who were on the company's website promoting the bikes, to cruise around sunny southern California. I split my time between Montana and northern New Mexico. This means I cannot ride this Izip product for most of the year.
Customer service-wise, the company did not reply to my emails two years ago; and just today, after expressing my concerns to a customer service rep. (who, in a nutshell, said it was my wife's fault she didn't know about the batteries because she bought the bike through Amazon and not directly from Izip) I was hung up on in the process of being transferred to a tech. And yes, I was polite--forceful and serious (no chagrined chuckling)-- but definitely polite.
Unless you live in southern California, southern Arizona, border Texas, the Gulf Coast, Florida, or Hawaii, do not buy this bicycle because you will not be able to ride it for three to six months of the year. Also, if you do buy one, go to your local bike shop and replace the stupid tires and tubes with something practical and affordable.
Also, you do not want to ride this thing without having the battery power available, the frame is very heavy (without the batteries)and the electrical system very sensitive for practical commuting use. This bike is great for movies stars to play around with, but for working folks, it will only add to your burdens.
